ARKS Training & Test

Take the next step into competitive karting

6 × approx. 10-lap driving sessions

Training plus the ARKS assessment – your first step towards a Motorsport UK kart racing licence.

  • Dedicated race kart – never shared
  • Fuel, tyres and mechanical support
  • Coaching, ARKS preparation and the ARKS assessment

ARKS starter pack: before the test, drivers must buy the Motorsport UK karting starter pack separately, study the training material beforehand and bring the required application paperwork on the day. The pack is not included in our course price, but it includes your first competition licence fee.

After ARKS, we can help you move on to testing and racing.

On the day

Typical timetable

Morning

  1. Arrival, sign-on and safety-equipment checks.
  2. Kart familiarisation and seat/pedal adjustments.
  3. Track walk and driver briefing.
  4. Track opens and driving sessions begin.

How the courses differ

Taster

Approx. finish 15:00

Four driving sessions of approximately 10 laps each, with introductory guidance and feedback.

Experience

Approx. finish 16:00

Six driving sessions of approximately 10 laps each, running approximately hourly, with coaching and feedback between sessions.

Allow a full day for either course, with breaks between sessions for feedback, rest and kart preparation. All timings are approximate and subject to the circuit's running schedule, weather and track conditions.

Which kart will I drive?

Choose the kart category that matches the driver's age when you book. Not sure which one? We'll help you choose.

  • 8–12 years

    Honda Cadet

    A four-stroke race kart offering a cost-effective introduction to karting. Ideal for young drivers building confidence and learning the foundations of racing.

  • 8–10 years

    Micro Max

    An introduction to two-stroke Rotax karting, giving younger drivers an exciting first taste of race kart performance.

  • 10–12 years

    Inter Max

    A step up in power and performance for young drivers developing their skills in a two-stroke Rotax race kart.

  • 13–15 years

    Junior Rotax

    Genuine Rotax race kart performance for juniors.

  • 16+ years

    Senior Rotax

    Full senior Rotax race kart for adult drivers.

These are guidance categories. Suitability can also depend on the driver's height, weight and experience – we'll help you choose the right kart when you book.

What's included and what to bring

You don't need to own, transport or maintain a kart. Your race kart is prepared and run by JST Competition – a team with 14 years in Formula One.

Race kart experience FAQs

Before booking, please read our Experience Day Booking Terms.

Do I need previous karting experience?

No. We cater for drivers taking their first steps into race karting and will recommend the right package for you.

Is the kart shared?

No. Each driver has a dedicated race kart for their experience.

How much driving will I get?

The Race Kart Taster has four sessions of approximately 10 laps (approximate finish 15:00). The Race Kart Experience has six sessions of approximately 10 laps, running approximately hourly (approximate finish 16:00). ARKS Training & Test is planned around six sessions.

Allow a full day for any course. All timings are approximate and subject to the circuit's running schedule, weather and track conditions.

Do I need my own kart?

No. The kart is supplied, prepared and run by JST Competition.

Do I need my own helmet and racewear?

Yes. Drivers must bring their own suitable helmet, race suit, gloves and karting boots or footwear approved by JST and the circuit. Personal safety equipment is not supplied. Please contact us before booking if you’re unsure whether your equipment is suitable.

Which kart will I drive?

Choose the kart category that matches the driver's age: Honda Cadet (8–12 years), Micro Max (8–10), Inter Max (10–12), Junior Rotax (13–15) or Senior Rotax (16+). Suitability can also depend on height, weight and experience, and we're happy to help you choose.

What is the ARKS test?

ARKS is the assessment new drivers complete to obtain their Motorsport UK kart racing licence. Before the test you must buy the Motorsport UK karting starter pack separately (it includes your first competition licence fee), study the training material and bring the required application paperwork on the day. Our ARKS Training & Test package prepares you for the test and provides the race kart and trackside support.

How do I start kart racing?

Most drivers start with a Race Kart Taster or Experience, then complete ARKS Training & Test for their licence before moving on to testing and racing. JST Competition can support every step, from kart preparation to race support.

Where are your experience days held?

We run Experience Days at four circuits: 
Whilton Mill near Daventry, Northamptonshire; Kart Silverstone near Towcester, Northamptonshire; PF International (PFI) near Grantham, Lincolnshire; and Red Lodge in Suffolk, near Newmarket and Mildenhall. Choose your circuit and date when you book.

Are VAT and circuit fees included?

All course prices include VAT and circuit fees.
